How do I cancel my subscription?

Web subscribers can manage their plan from Account → Manage Subscription. iOS subscribers cancel via Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Android via Google Play → Subscriptions.

How do you test products?

We buy products anonymously from retail, then run them through our own lab plus an independent accredited second lab. Both labs have to agree before we publish.

Can I request a product to be tested?

Yes — head to /contribute and submit a photo or paste a link. Popular requests get prioritized.

How do I delete my account?

Account → Delete Account in the app or on the web. You can also email support@theproductreport.org and we will complete deletion within 30 days.

Can I get a refund?

Monthly web plans can be canceled anytime and are non-refundable after billing. Annual plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee. App Store and Google Play refunds go through those stores directly.

The scanner is not working

Check camera permissions in your device settings. Ensure strong lighting and hold the camera ~6 inches from the barcode. If it still fails, submit the product manually via /contribute.

About the app

Why should I trust you over free apps?
Other apps read ingredient labels and crowdsource databases. We run products through mass spectrometry, ion chromatography, and a second-lab confirmation. Labels can lie, instruments cannot.
Do you accept money from brands?
No. The Product Report is funded entirely by subscriber support. Brands cannot pay to influence scores, advertise, or alter testing priorities.
How accurate are your scores?
Every score is built from confirmed lab data. We publish the underlying methodology and we never publish a finding until two independent labs agree.

Subscriptions & billing

What are the price points?
Annual membership is $99.99/yr (about $8.33/mo) and includes a 30-day free trial.
When will I be charged?
Your subscription begins immediately after checkout. You can cancel any time. The 7-day trial only applies to first-time subscribers.
What happens after the free trial?
You will be charged for the plan you selected. We send a reminder before the trial ends. Cancel any time during the trial at no cost.

Testing & methodology

How long does a test take?
Most products move through the lab in 2-4 weeks. Complex categories (baby formula, supplements) can take longer because of the confirmation runs.
Why is my product not in your database?
We test everything ourselves rather than scraping label data. Building coverage takes time. Submit the product at /contribute and it moves to the queue.
What is mass spectrometry?
A technique that identifies compounds by their molecular weight. The sample is ionized and fragmented, creating a fingerprint that tells us exactly what is present, even trace amounts not on the label.
